April marked two important milestones in Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Fall River’s (CCFR) ongoing commitment to serving those individuals and families who are unhoused. On Sunday, April 30, Bishop da Cunha (pictured) blessed each room of the Samaritan House’s new location at the former Holy Rosary Rectory in Taunton with Holy Water. Samaritan House is an emergency homeless shelter for 18 men and women. The new location is an important component of Samaritan House’s continuing work to help its guests secure permanent housing, employment and long-term sustainability.
On April 4, CCFR CEO Susan Mazzarella participated in a ground-breaking ceremony (pictured) for a new building in Attleboro that will serve as a homeless shelter as well as provide 22 units of permanent supportive housing and other resources. Shared Ms. Mazzarella, “This project that we are celebrating the groundbreaking for today is an exquisite example of how the community of Attleboro is joining together to try to eradicate homelessness in this area by providing shelter, resources, and supportive housing to help those who are unhoused find the lost reality of a home–again.” Partners on this project include Fr. Bills/Mainspring, Neighborworks, BayCoast Bank, State Representative Hawkins, Greater Bristol County Continuum of Care, Community Counseling of Bristol County, Attleboro Area Interfaith Collaborative, Manet Community Health and The United Way.
CFSEMA will continue to partner with Catholic Charities to help support and maintain the critical role that these ministries provide to the Bristol County Community.
